SNY Reporter Kevin Burkhardt speaks with Jerry Manuel about last night's 8-0 Mets win.
KB - Jerry, you must feel good about the performance you got from Dickey last night...
JM - Well, umm, uh, you see, the thing is, he threw us a lot of strikes. Often times in baseball you find that a pitcher who will throw a lot of strikes will be, uh, verrrry successful.
KB - And Jerry, how about the performance of Jason Bay. He drove in another two runs last night...
JM - Well, Kevin, uhhhh, Jason Bay is our 3 hitter for a reason. He likes to uh, evaluate the situation and approach the at-bat, uh, with the mindset that he will, perhaps hit the ball hard somewhere. That, uh, is usually a good thing for our team.
KB - And the sparkplug, Jose Reyes?
JM - When he can get on base it change the dynamics of the game. He's our leadoff hitter because he likes to evaluate the situation and approach his at-bat, with uh, the mindset that he will perhaps hit the ball hard somewhere.
KB - With this 3 game win streak against two very top notch teams, do you feel that your job is no longer in jeopardy?
JM - You know, Kevin, you can't worry about things like that. We're all happy to uh, be in this great game of ours, and we need to have fun and not worry about winning or about myself necessarily making the right decisions all the time...or at all.
